Origami Star Tutorial

Here is a tutorial for the origami stars my kids and I made over the weekend. I've included a picture tutorial series and, a first for me, a video tutorial so that you can get the full zany zencrafting experience.

Materials
Five sheets of Aitoh Origami Rice Paper in the Kimono and Folk Art design

For each sheet, follow steps 1 through 8 below:
Step 1: Fold the sheet in half.

Step 2: Fold the sheet in half again so that you have a small square.

Step 3: Open up the square, with right side down.

Steps 4 and 5: Fold down the top right corner and the bottom left corner.

Step 6: Fold up the bottom right corner, crease, and then unfold.

Step 7: Fold the whole square in half from the middle crease.

Step 8: Fold the bottom left corner up, crease, and then fold back down.

Follow steps 1 through 8 above for the four remaining squares.

Step 9: To form the star, place your first folded piece down horizontally. Place the second piece vertically, with the creased triangle right side up. Slide the creased corner of the second sheet into the triangular slot of the first piece.

Step 10: Fold the triangle on the back side of the bottom piece of paper into its slot as well.

Step 11: Follow steps 9 and 10 for the remaining three sheets. The last sheet will also attach to the very first piece.

Voila, a beautiful origami star that you can use to make a Christmas garland or wreath.

This is the first video tutorial that I have attempted (ugh, my voice sounds silly!!), and I'm only sharing it because you are my friends and won't laugh too hard at my efforts. My AV tech had some issues, so Part 1 had to be cut short and then resumed in Part 2.

Hi. I am looking for easy, lightweight ornaments that ship well overseas. Could I ship these flat in a box & then they be "puffed up" upon receipt?

Thanks!
Christy

Christy, yes the origami stars can be easily folded for shipping and then unfolded for display.

Looks very interesting. Could you use cheap paper for this? Did you developed this origami on your own?
