A Given Day
Today I am grateful for this blog. For encouraging me to keep track of my days in photoessay form for the last three years.
Over the last few days I have been looking back at my old blog posts. I wondered what was going on for me in March of past years, what patterns I could identify.
What struck me was how much energy and enthusiasm I had for sharing my crafting and everyday adventures with my children in 2008, the first year I started blogging. In 2009 and 2010, as my children grew and matured, I changed as well, and my blog posts became more contemplative. I noticed also how much closer in contact with nature I was in Ithaca than I am here in Maryland.
My energy is definitely quieter these days, and I'm accepting that change in rhythm as well. I've been doing a lot of reading lately, soaking in imagery and metaphor and wisdom. I am still crafting, but I haven't felt compelled to share my creations on the blog as much, and I will have to look at that more carefully to understand why.
I found this post, A Really Good Day, from March 5 of last year, which reminded me about gratitude.
I will keep this in mind today: "Let the gratefulness overflow into blessings all around you, and then it will truly be a good day." Brother David Steindl-Rast

I have so much to learn from you and am so grateful to have your gentle presence in my life.
I watched the video. It's a wonderful reminder of such an important daily practice. I am truly attempting to bring more of this kind of mindfulness into each day, and yes even at night when I am wakeful in bed and it's three in the morning. Even in the wee hours of this morning as the wind roared around the house, I was thinking about the importance of looking up and of looking down. I realized how much of the "in between", perhaps the middle distance I tend to concentrate on. I think that middle distance is a metaphor for being somewhere else, the future or past perhaps (sp?) and not the very moment of all that I truly have.
I briefly checked out gratefulness.org and will return to it.
Thank you.
I don't know why I typed in (sp?)???
I think I was meaning to say (for me).
beautiful images! your blog has a wonderful name
I think a good blog is one that reflects the writer and her rhythms. Sometimes that rhythm is more hands on, sometimes it is more contemplative. you are being honest to yourself.
we all change & evolve, thank goodness. We are also most of the time too exigeant with ourselves, we women & mamas. This blog is YOUR place, you do what YOU want to do, everyone here respects what we want to share, and what you don't want to share.
thinking about you, my friend xoxo
hugs
Love the reflecting you do on your blog these days, looking at where you have been to build a vision for the future. Still, you are so right -- gratitude for the present is priceless. Looking forward to when you head north again. Peace to you.
Though you may change what you show us here your words always inspire. I remember the post from last year and just enjoyed watching it again. Thanks for taking me to it again and reminding me to practice daily gratitude.

Hello, I am a reader of your blog from Japan, I love your writings.
I am grateful for your blog and your wisdom. You have such a talent for seeing inside the life of things.
wonderful - it's as if you've made a full circle and the circle encompasses the things that you are present to and grateful for! really delightful to be on sharing the journey with you!
and just echoing what others have said, you bring such evocative expression to your patterns and rhythms and introspection.
