How to Make a Memory Quilt

Piece by piece, a mosaic of fabric assembles into a single block.

This single block joins to others to form a row.

One row joins to others to form a quilt.

This quilt shows a life pieced together over the years.

A life of caring for the earth . . .

. . . and its creatures.

Of creating a family . . .

And sharing a wealth of talent.

This quilt--this life--is sewn with a complex pattern of threads and bound together with love.

Happy birthday, Donna.

That was a really beautiful post! You are a really poetic writer, and don't let anybody tell you different.

What a lovely thing.
Are the photos printed onto fabric? How do you do that?

Great idea for a present.

Thanks for visiting my blog, too!

Thank you, mayaluna, katherine, and esther.

The photos on the memory quilt are printed on fabric using my inkjet printer. Some of them are printed on muslin, which I ironed onto freezer paper and then ran through the printer (the freezer paper gives the fabric a stiff backing that allows it to go through the printer). Most of the photos are printed on “Printed Treasures by Milliken” Sew-On Inkjet Fabric Sheets, which are pricey but of very nice quality. I noticed that the digital photos printed out much nicer than the photos I scanned in, FYI.
